Since June 2002, Fukaya had been a senior managing director in charge of the Production Promotion Center. His responsibilities included strategic planning and implementation of production technologies of all DENSO Group manufacturing, as well as all of DENSOÕs mono-zukuri, the process of making (zukuri) things (mono). Mono-zukuri is where team-oriented efforts involve each step of the manufacturing process. He was first appointed to the Board of Directors in March 1995, and served as the president of DENSO Manufacturing Michigan, Inc. in Battle Creek, Mich., in 1995 before serving as managing director of Thermal Systems in 1998. Fukaya also served as general manager of the Production Engineering Department, the Production Engineering Research & Development Department and the Air-conditioning Manufacturing Department. Throughout his tenure at DENSO, Fukaya researched automatic assembly systems, developed flexible manufacturing systems and established advanced production systems. He has distinguished his career by earning several production and technology awards. Fukaya joined DENSO Corporation (formerly Nippondenso Co. Ltd.) in 1966 after graduating with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Tokyo Institute of Technology. His major areas of study included material strength, thermodynamics, aeromechanics and automatic control systems. # # #
